Working Holiday in Uruguay for Australians (2026)

Check the essential requirements, then follow the five stages to prepare your application and trip.

Governments can change visa requirements at any time. Always check the official government pages before applying.

Uruguay’s 7 May 2026 page contains a distinct Australian section, not the neighbouring New Zealand section. The application route is established; Australian age, exact granted duration and current tariffs still require confirmation.

Working Holiday in Uruguay for Australians (2026)

Requirements, application steps and preparation before departure.

Step 1

Check requirements and language preparation

Age

The general page says 18–30 with some 35-year exceptions, but its Australian subsection does not identify the Australian upper limit. Confirm before age matching.

Length of stay

This is the page’s declared-stay wording, not an automatic grant. Check approved duration with Uruguay’s authority.

Initial funds

Australian subsection asks accredited evidence issued within 30 days; no numeric support minimum established.

Visa fee

Page lists no consular-stage charge but arrival fees separately; DNIC identity-card cost 443 local currency dated February 2026. Check current indexed units/tariffs; no exchange conversion or total invented.

Annual quota

No Australian annual allocation established on this page.

Application dates and timing

Australian section’s approval-notification deadline, not an annual opening.

Step 2

Apply through the official route

Start temporary-residence application at Uruguay’s embassy in Canberra or consulate in Sydney; after approval and entry complete DNM and DNIC steps.

  1. Ask Canberra or Sydney to confirm Australian age, approved duration and current appointment/checklist.
  2. Prepare Australian passport, medical certificate, recent funds and apostilled/legalized police records for the required countries.
  3. File through the responsible Uruguayan mission in Australia and await residence approval; entry is within 180 days after notification.
  4. After entry, attend DNM with required evidence and charges, then DNIC for the identity card; confirm work activation.

Step 3

Read your approval and entry conditions

Read the entire approval notice: identity, dates, entry deadline and conditions. Keep it available offline. Do not assume the visa starts on your preferred date.

Step 4

Get ready for the trip

Prepare birth and police records with required apostilles/translations, medical evidence, recent funds and comprehensive cover. Keep return costs separate. Budget indexed-unit arrival charges without treating the consular no-charge label as a free whole process.

  • Passport, visa and requested evidence accessible offline.
  • Initial funds, insurance and departure costs checked separately.
  • First accommodation and airport transport arranged.

Step 5

Start your Working Holiday

Attend DNM with passport, photo, residence/certificate charges and a vaccination certificate validated by a Uruguayan vaccination centre. Then take birth/residence evidence to DNIC for the identity card. Bring an interpreter if needed.

Work

Obtain the appropriate temporary-residence permission and confirm work activation before employment. Tourist admission alone is insufficient.
