Check the essential requirements, then follow the five stages to prepare your application and trip.

Governments can change visa requirements at any time. Always check the official government pages before applying.

Working Holiday in Belgium for Australians (2026)

Requirements, application steps and preparation before departure.

Step 1

Check requirements and language preparation

Visa fee

Delegated page has inconsistent EUR 0/AUD 324 visa row, AUD 76 service charge and separate administrative fee; confirm current total and Brussels payment before filing.

Application dates and timing

No current annual application window established. Allow mission processing time and appointment lead time.

Insurance

The 2023 mission page recommends comprehensive cover and mentions Medicare. Its delegated 2026 checklist requires EUR 30,000 cover for the full stay throughout Schengen, but also accepts a Medicare copy. Prepare comprehensive cover and ask the mission whether Medicare can substitute; this discrepancy remains unresolved.

Documents and participation

The January 2026 checklist asks for medical and police certificates issued within six months. Use an apostilled AFP hard-copy name check, without fingerprints or notarisation. Include a photograph taken within six months, a holiday-plan letter, funds, insurance or accepted Medicare evidence, and the return itinerary.

Step 2

Apply through the official route

  1. Read the mission Australian page and its linked January 2026 Working Holiday checklist.
  2. Complete VisaOnWeb and collect approved-doctor medical, apostilled hard-copy AFP name check and financial/travel evidence.
  3. Confirm administrative, visa and service charges and insurance/Medicare interpretation before the official appointment.
  4. Submit the complete file through the mission-designated provider and await the consular decision before travel.

Step 3

Read your approval and entry conditions

Read the entire approval notice: identity, dates, entry deadline and conditions. Keep it available offline. Do not assume the visa starts on your preferred date.

Step 4

Get ready for the trip

Order the correct AFP hard-copy name check for apostille and use the approved medical form/doctor. Keep support funds and return travel separate; resolve insurance alternatives and fee-table inconsistency with the mission.

  • Passport, visa and requested evidence accessible offline.
  • Initial funds, insurance and departure costs checked separately.
  • First accommodation and airport transport arranged.

Step 5

Start your Working Holiday

Keep the visa and checklist evidence available. Salaried work needs no separate work permit under the mission guidance, but regulated professions may require recognition. Track three total months of study; confirm local residence registration with the authority.

Language courses · commercial service

Plan a language course for your trip.

Through ViveCampus you can request language-course quotes with international-student discounts. Offers may vary by your country of origin and destination. A personalized quote confirms available discounts and the final price. Booking a course does not guarantee a visa.
