Working Holiday in France for Australians (2026)

Requirements, application steps and preparation before departure.

Step 1

Check requirements and language preparation

Initial funds

The historical mission PDF says AUD 5,000. Current France-Visas pages direct applicants to a personalised checklist without stating an amount here. Confirm the current threshold rather than treating the old PDF as settled guidance.

Insurance

Historical PDF requires full-year sickness/maternity/disability/repatriation cover regardless of a shorter itinerary. Prepare protective coverage and obtain the current personalised checklist; the old PDF is not fresh confirmation.

Step 2

Apply through the official route

  1. Select Australian nationality, Working Holiday and lawful residence in France-Visas.
  2. Generate the personalised current checklist and confirm funds, insurance, passport, police evidence and charges.
  3. If resident in Australia, book the designated VFS centre; Sydney consulate decides. Australians legally resident abroad may use the competent consular service there.
  4. Submit biometrics/documents as instructed and wait for the actual visa; read its category, dates and any arrival formalities.

Step 3

Read your approval and entry conditions

Read the entire approval notice: identity, dates, entry deadline and conditions. Keep it available offline. Do not assume the visa starts on your preferred date.

Step 4

Get ready for the trip

Do not prepare from the old Sydney PDF alone: its under-31 rule and direct consulate filing are superseded. Use its insurance/funds/document details only as questions for the current official checklist. Keep sufficient support and return funds, and arrange appropriate full-stay cover.

  • Passport, visa and requested evidence accessible offline.
  • Initial funds, insurance and departure costs checked separately.
  • First accommodation and airport transport arranged.

Step 5

Start your Working Holiday

Check the visa says vacances-travail and read its conditions. It permits paid work secondary to tourism without prior French administrative approval; do not assume every long-stay visa has identical validation/residence formalities. Confirm the requirements printed on your grant.

Language courses · commercial service

Plan a language course for your trip.

Through ViveCampus you can request language-course quotes with international-student discounts. Offers may vary by your country of origin and destination. A personalized quote confirms available discounts and the final price. Booking a course does not guarantee a visa.

Australian course limit not established; verify separately before enrolment.
