Working Holiday in Taiwan for Australians (2026)

Requirements, application steps and preparation before departure.

Step 1

Check requirements and language preparation

Age

Australian first-time participants must not be accompanied by a dependent spouse or children.

References: AU-TW-END

Length of stay

Total stay cannot exceed one year from first entry. The multiple-entry visa’s one-year validity from issue is a separate period.

References: AU-TW-END

Initial funds

Return or onward travel, or money to buy it, is additional. The checklist also requires a ticket to Taiwan or evidence of funds to buy one.

References: AU-TW-END

Visa fee

The fee is non-refundable. Confirm the local amount with the Australian mission handling the application.

References: AU-TW-END

Annual quota

The Australian BOCA page checked does not establish a numeric annual allocation. No reciprocal inbound-Australia quota is used.

References: AU-TW-END

Application dates and timing

Apply to the appropriate National Immigration Agency service centre. Do not confuse the visa’s issue-based validity with the total stay counted from first entry.

Language

BOCA’s Australian checklist does not establish a Mandarin proficiency score. The Mandarin-course allowance is not an entry-language requirement.

Passport

Use the Australian-specific BOCA checklist and check the expected arrival date against passport validity.

Insurance

Submit whole-stay insurance evidence with the application.

Documents and participation

Complete the BOCA form online and sign the printed second page. Supply two recent 2 × 2 inch photographs, travel, funds and insurance evidence; an interview may be required.

Step 2

Apply through the official route

Complete the BOCA form online, then lodge the printed and signed application at an authorised Taiwanese mission in Australia, personally or through an accepted agent or commissioned travel agency.

  1. Check first participation, age, passport validity and the restrictions on dependent family members.
  2. Complete and print the BOCA application. Gather two recent photographs, passport, travel evidence, separate support and departure funds, and whole-stay medical insurance.
  3. Lodge through the authorised Australian mission using its accepted personal or representative method. Pay the local equivalent of the non-refundable fee and attend an interview if requested.
  4. Check both visa validity and permitted stay. After entry, plan any extension within the official fifteen-day period before the current stay expires.

Step 3

Read your approval and entry conditions

Read the entire approval notice: identity, dates, entry deadline and conditions. Keep it available offline. Do not assume the visa starts on your preferred date.

Step 4

Get ready for the trip

Keep separate records of visa issue, first entry and each permitted stay. These dates control different limits; repeated entry does not create more than the one-year total from first entry.

  • Passport, visa and requested evidence accessible offline.
  • Initial funds, insurance and departure costs checked separately.
  • First accommodation and airport transport arranged.

Step 5

Start your Working Holiday

The stay begins on the day after arrival. Follow the National Immigration Agency extension procedure when eligible and observe the three-month employer and Mandarin-course limits. Do not assume an in-country change of visa category is allowed.

Work

Continuous employment for the entire twelve-month stay is excluded. The visa itself acts as work permission; regulated professions still require appropriate qualifications and registration.

Language courses · commercial service

Plan a language course for your trip.

Through ViveCampus you can request language-course quotes with international-student discounts. Offers may vary by your country of origin and destination. A personalized quote confirms available discounts and the final price. Booking a course does not guarantee a visa.

Formal classes in other subjects are prohibited under this Australian programme guidance.
