Working Holiday in Hong Kong for Australians (2026)

Requirements, application steps and preparation before departure.

Step 1

Check requirements and language preparation

Visa fee

Current ordinary-visa schedule; Australian WH is not among the listed fee-waiver nationalities or specified talent schemes. Pay through official approval notification.

Application dates and timing

No annual application opening established here. First-come processing and annual 5000 context do not establish remaining places.

Insurance

Generic eligibility requires full-stay medical/hospital/repatriation/liability, but annex Note 5 does not list Australians. Preserve this scope ambiguity; prepare protective full-stay cover and ask ImmD for the Australian insurance rule.

Documents and participation

Passport/nationality, residence, HKD 20000 maintenance and return ticket/funds. No repeat participation or dependent spouse/child entry under this scheme.

Step 2

Apply through the official route

  1. Use the official Immigration Department page and its GovHK online Working Holiday application link.
  2. Prepare passport, ordinary Australian residence, HKD 20000 maintenance and separate return-ticket/funds evidence; clarify insurance wording.
  3. Upload the supporting documents and respond to Immigration Department requests; do not substitute visitor entry for a WH application.
  4. If approved, pay via the official notification link and download/print the eVisa before travel.

Step 3

Read your approval and entry conditions

Read the entire approval notice: identity, dates, entry deadline and conditions. Keep it available offline. Do not assume the visa starts on your preferred date.

Step 4

Get ready for the trip

Set aside maintenance and return travel separately. Confirm the Australian insurance clause because the generic requirement and annex scope differ; comprehensive protection is precautionary preparation, not a resolved legal interpretation.

  • Passport, visa and requested evidence accessible offline.
  • Initial funds, insurance and departure costs checked separately.
  • First accommodation and airport transport arranged.

Step 5

Start your Working Holiday

Enter with the eVisa and evidence, then check the admitted dates. Track no more than three months with each employer; Australians may take multiple courses but each must last no more than three months. Permanent employment and repeat WH are excluded.

Language courses · commercial service

Plan a language course for your trip.

Through ViveCampus you can request language-course quotes with international-student discounts. Offers may vary by your country of origin and destination. A personalized quote confirms available discounts and the final price. Booking a course does not guarantee a visa.

More than one course; each up to 3 months
