Step 2
Apply through the official route
- Book a personal appointment with the Italian mission responsible for your Australian residence; Sydney requires NSW address evidence.
- Collect printed form/photo/passport, own recent 30-day bank history, travel and insurance/Medicare evidence.
- Meet the mission filing lead time: Sydney no earlier than 180 days and recommends at least two weeks; confirm current fees and complete evidence at interview.
- After visa issue follow the consular arrival instructions, including the residence-permit application within eight days and confirmation of labour conditions.
Step 3
Read your approval and entry conditions
Read the entire approval notice: identity, dates, entry deadline and conditions. Keep it available offline. Do not assume the visa starts on your preferred date.
Step 4
Get ready for the trip
EUR 10000 for 365 days or proportional shorter-stay funds are required in your own bank history even if travel costs are prepaid. Departure travel is additional. Medicare covers the checklist’s first six months; arrange suitable private cover for excess periods or the whole visa.

Step 5
Start your Working Holiday
Apply for the permesso di soggiorno at the local Questura within eight days following the consular guidance. Confirm the Australian work process and current limits before starting: the older Adelaide rule is not an unrestricted work permission.
Work
Adelaide April 2023 official instructions say 6 months total and 3 per employer; Sydney September 2025 checklist is silent. Confirm current Australian labour permission and any further work-permit process with responsible mission; no Canadian rule transferred.
Study
