Working Holiday in Norway for New Zealanders (2026)

Requirements, application steps and preparation before departure.

Step 1

Check requirements and language preparation

Age

Current Norwegian-language UDI text says the applicant must have reached eighteen and not yet thirty-one. The earlier English wording said over eighteen. That English page and treaty could not be reread; keep the boundary question explicit for an eighteen-year-old rather than rejecting them.

Initial funds

UDI accepts money in the bank and/or a concrete offer of paid work. Check the current amount and the evidence required for your application.

Visa fee

A fee is required, but the current New Zealand amount was not established in the inspected country-specific text.

Annual quota

A New Zealand annual allocation was not established by the inspected UDI text.

Application dates and timing

No current annual window established. Follow UDI’s individual application and entry instructions.

Passport

New Zealand citizenship is required; permanent residence alone is insufficient. Exact passport-validity margin needs the current checklist.

Insurance

Declare whole-stay medical and hospital cover before entry

Documents and participation

Bank funds and/or a concrete paid-work offer support the first three months. Obtain the current New Zealand identity and submission checklist rather than copying Canada’s route.

Step 2

Apply through the official route

  1. Select New Zealand under UDI’s Working Holiday category and obtain the current checklist for your filing location.
  2. Clarify the lower-age wording if applying at eighteen; prepare identity, support funds or concrete paid-work evidence and the insurance declaration.
  3. Register the application, pay the confirmed category fee and submit documents through the official UDI-designated channel.
  4. Await the decision and follow its entry, police appointment and residence-card instructions before work.

Step 3

Read your approval and entry conditions

Read the entire approval notice: identity, dates, entry deadline and conditions. Keep it available offline. Do not assume the visa starts on your preferred date.

Step 4

Get ready for the trip

Prepare NOK 46,464 for the first three months using bank funds and/or a concrete paid-work offer under UDI’s rule. Arrange medical and hospital cover before entering. Ask UDI about any unresolved age-boundary or checklist details; this is not a negative eligibility decision.

  • Passport, visa and requested evidence accessible offline.
  • Initial funds, insurance and departure costs checked separately.
  • First accommodation and airport transport arranged.

Step 5

Start your Working Holiday

Read the actual permit and obtain its police/residence-card instructions. Track six months with each employer and no more than three months of study. The permit totals no more than one year and does not count toward permanent residence.
