Step 2
Apply through the official route
- Check Japan residence, age and participation history, then create an IEC profile.
- After receiving and accepting an invitation, check the UTC deadline in your account.
- Use the personalised checklist to submit the work-permit application within 20 days of acceptance.
- After receiving the POE introduction letter, arrange insurance and arrival evidence and check the actual work permit at entry.
Step 3
Read your approval and entry conditions
Read the entire approval notice: identity, dates, entry deadline and conditions. Keep it available offline. Do not assume the visa starts on your preferred date.
Step 4
Get ready for the trip
A Japanese police certificate is not required initially but can be requested later; evidence for other-country residence is separate. Prepare a bank statement issued within 1 week of departure, living and departure funds, and full-stay medical, hospital and repatriation insurance.

Step 5
Start your Working Holiday
The POE letter is not the work permit. Have your passport, insurance, funds, departure evidence and application copies ready. Before leaving the border, check the permit’s name, dates and conditions. A permit shortened to match a short insurance policy cannot later be extended on that basis.
Work
At entry, check the employer is open and location unknown. Follow any medical or other conditions on the actual permit.
