Working Holiday in New Zealand for French citizens (2026)

Requirements to check and steps to prepare your trip.

Step 1

Check requirements and prepare your language

Age

This is the age range for French citizens. Another passport’s scheme does not establish your requirements.

Annual quota

The inspected instructions do not establish an applicable annual ceiling; no remaining places are inferred.

References : FRC-NZ-PRIMARY

Application timing

Validity begins at entry if granted while abroad, or at grant if already in New Zealand. No live availability is displayed here.

Length of stay

Enter within 12 months of issue. If you do not travel within that period, the visa expires and you cannot apply for another.

Visa fee

The published price is a starting amount. Check the total applicable to your application before paying.

Initial funds

Keep these funds for your initial stay and separately hold a departure ticket or money to buy one. Do not turn an older euro estimate into a new threshold.

Step 2

Apply for the visa

  1. Check the France scheme, passport and absence of a previous New Zealand Working Holiday grant, even if unused.
  2. Apply online through Immigration New Zealand. The application is completed in English.
  3. Provide the requested documents and translations and pay the amount confirmed by the portal.
  4. Watch for further requests. After approval, record the entry deadline and arrange insurance for the full stay.

Step 3

After approval

Read the full decision: dates, identity, conditions and any evidence needed on arrival. Keep a copy available offline. Do not assume the visa starts or ends on your preferred date.

Step 4

Prepare your trip

Keep NZD 4,200 maintenance and separately a departure ticket or its purchase funds. Prepare certified English translations of requested police or medical evidence and insurance for the entire period.

  • Passport, visa and evidence accessible offline.
  • Insurance, financial reserve and departure travel checked separately.
  • First accommodation, arrival transport and emergency contacts prepared.

Step 5

Start your Working Holiday

Complete the New Zealand Traveller Declaration on its official timetable. Keep the eVisa, insurance and departure resources accessible; check the employment conditions recorded in the eVisa before working.

Work

Permanent employment is not allowed. You do not need a job offer to apply. Check the employment conditions on your eVisa.

Frequently asked questions

Can I reapply if my previous visa was unused?

No. A previous New Zealand Working Holiday grant prevents a new application even without travel. Participation in another country is different.

References : FRC-NZ-PRIMARY

Is departure travel included in NZD 4,200?

No. Immigration New Zealand requires ticket resources in addition to maintenance funds. Keep separate evidence.

References : FRC-NZ-PRIMARY

Does the study limit apply separately to each course?

No. Study and training must not exceed six months in total. Changing provider does not restart that allowance.

References : FRC-NZ-PRIMARY

Do I need a job offer?

No. The French scheme requires no advance job offer but excludes permanent employment. Follow your eVisa employment conditions.

References : FRC-NZ-PRIMARY

Can I postpone the entry deadline?

The official page says the visa cannot be delayed or cancelled. Enter within twelve months; otherwise it expires without a right to reapply.

References : FRC-NZ-PRIMARY

Which certificates should I order immediately?

Follow Immigration New Zealand requests: medical and police evidence depends on the case. Required documents must meet their recency and translation rules.

Contacts and consular assistance

For your application, use the issuing authority’s official contact details. For assistance to French citizens abroad, use the French diplomatic directory; the French consulate does not decide the host country’s visa.
