Step 2

Apply for the visa

  1. Check citizenship, residence in France and first participation.
  2. Prepare originals and copies; obtain forms from the official page.
  3. Use the embassy appointment link; present the complete file in Paris.
  4. Confirm the conflicting fee and follow passport collection instructions.

Step 3

After approval

Read the full decision: dates, identity, conditions and any evidence needed on arrival. Keep a copy available offline. Do not assume the visa starts or ends on your preferred date.

Step 4

Prepare your trip

Prepare documents under three months old and personal funds, without third-party evidence. Paris exempts the French police certificate from apostille; residence exceeding one year elsewhere during the last three years triggers apostilled or legalised foreign certificates.

  • Passport, visa and evidence accessible offline.
  • Insurance, financial reserve and departure travel checked separately.
  • First accommodation, arrival transport and emergency contacts prepared.

Step 5

Start your Working Holiday

Keep the annual insurance of at least EUR 30,000 and supporting documents accessible. Multiple entries are permitted but do not restart the maximum stay; work as an employee, without business creation or freelance status.

Work

Incidental employee work; Paris excludes business creation and freelance status.

Frequently asked questions

Is the fee confirmed?

Paris states a free visa, while the national page requests a EUR 150 receipt. Confirm with Paris before paying; neither statement is silently discarded.

Does the French police certificate need an apostille?

Paris says no. Certificates from other countries require apostille or legalisation; residence exceeding one year during the last three years may make them necessary.

Can I use my parents’ funds?

The Paris file requires a personal bank statement or certificate, not a third party’s, showing at least EUR 2,500. Prepare return travel separately.

When should I schedule the appointment?

Paris specifies no earlier than three months before departure. The annual cycle beginning on 1 January does not prove an appointment or place remains available.

Can I submit an incomplete file?

Paris warns that an incomplete file will not be processed and a new appointment will be required. Do not plan to complete missing documents after the interview.

Can I freelance?

Not under the Paris instructions: WH allows employee work secondary to the trip, but excludes business creation and freelance status.
