Working Holiday in Japan for Brazilian citizens (2026)

Requirements, application steps and travel preparation.

Step 1

Check requirements and prepare your language skills

Age when applying

18–30 in the agreement

The Japanese note sets this range when applying. It is a condition of the announced programme: confirm implementing consular instructions before preparing an application.

References: BR-JP-NOTE

Passport and nationality

Brazilian and resident in Brazil when applying

The note requires Brazilian citizenship and residence when applying, plus a valid passport. Confirm jurisdiction and the documentary validity requested by the mission.

Language requirement

Japanese alone does not determine refusal

The agreement says an application will not be refused solely for lack of Japanese. This guarantees neither approval nor work. Learning Japanese may help daily life; confirm the consular checklist.

Documents and previous participation

First participation, health, character and holiday plans

The note requires no previous issue of this visa, good health, sound background, funds, insurance and a holiday purpose. Dependents can accompany only with their own right to enter. Brazil’s form, evidence and consular procedure still need confirmation.

Before applying

While the consular procedure remains unconfirmed, organise a holiday plan and check your passport, initial funds, return travel and sufficient medical insurance. The agreement gives no fixed financial amount or complete operational checklist. Avoid paying for documents or services based only on other nationalities’ requirements.

Language courses · commercial service

Prepare your language skills before travelling.

Through ViveCampus, you can get quotes for language courses with international-student discounts. Offers may vary by your country of origin and destination. Request a personalized quote to confirm available discounts and the final price. Booking a course does not guarantee a visa.

Step 2

Apply for the Working Holiday visa

Annual quota

The Japanese note provides for an annual limit agreed between governments. A current number for Brazilians was not established; do not use another nationality’s allocation.

Application dates

Programme adoption in agreement: 1 December 2026

The note dated 24 July 2026 provides for adopting the measures from 1 December 2026. This is not an available appointment or an announcement accepting applications. Confirm the procedure with the Japanese mission in Brazil.

Visa fee

Free under the agreement

The note provides issuance without a fee. Travel, insurance and preparation costs are separate; wait for official instructions before paying third parties.

How to prepare your application

  1. Read the agreement and Japanese note, distinguishing prospective adoption from 1 December 2026 from confirmation that applications are being accepted.
  2. Identify the Japanese mission responsible for your residence in Brazil and check its official instructions for the new programme.
  3. When applicable instructions are available, confirm the form, financial evidence, insurance, documents, appointments and filing process. Do not use another passport’s checklist.
  4. Only after a decision and issuance, check the three months to use the visa and the authorised stay of up to one year after entry.

Brazilian-specific processing time remains unconfirmed. Await the responsible Japanese mission’s instructions.

Step 3

If my visa is approved

Wait for a written decision. Before booking, check your entry deadline and the conditions of the permit you receive.

Length of stay

Up to 1 year from entry

The agreement distinguishes three months to use the visa after issuance from a stay of up to one year after entry. It does not allow extending the stay or changing status during it. Confirm the issued document’s dates.

Step 4

Get ready for my trip

Funds for your stay

The agreement requires reasonable initial funds and a return ticket or money to buy one. The consulted note gives no amount. We do not copy Chilean, Spanish or other passports’ figures: Brazil’s checklist still needs confirmation.

Travel insurance

Sufficient medical insurance under the agreement

The note requires sufficient medical insurance. The consular checklist’s amount, format and coverage still need confirmation; do not automatically reuse another destination’s policy.

On arrival

No. The note distinguishes three months to use the visa after issuance from a stay of up to one year from entry, according to the issued document.
