Step 2

Apply through the official route

Attend Uruguay’s consulate in London for Working Holiday temporary residence. The consulate passes the file through foreign affairs to National Migration; after approval and entry, separate in-person migration and identity-card steps remain.

The official2026 notice describes a decision within a maximum of fifteen working days after consular documentation is submitted through the official process. Appointment and arrival formalities are separate; confirm timing before travel. GB-UY-18

  1. Check the British age/passport requirements and arrange filing with the Uruguayan consulate in London.
  2. Prepare medical evidence, recent apostilled/legalised police records, funds evidence issued within thirty days, intended stay and authenticated birth certificate.
  3. Attend the consulate with the required documents and await the National Migration decision communicated through the consulate.
  4. On approval, enter within 180 days of notification and complete the migration/identity steps in Uruguay.

Step 3

Read your approval and entry conditions

Read the entire approval notice: identity, dates, entry deadline and conditions. Keep it available offline. Do not assume the visa starts on your preferred date.

Step 4

Get ready for the trip

Bring the apostilled/legalised birth certificate: a certified translation in Uruguay is required for the identity card. Police evidence must be issued within six months before filing; funds evidence within thirty days. Check fees and original documents before travel.

GB-UY-18

  • Passport, visa and requested evidence accessible offline.
  • Initial funds, insurance and departure costs checked separately.
  • First accommodation and airport transport arranged.

Step 5

Start your Working Holiday

After entering within 180 days of approval notification, attend National Migration and National Civil Identification in person to apply for the identity card and pay the required fees. The declared authorised stay can be up to two years; follow your individual grant.
