Documents and previous participation

Higher education and legalised documents

The annex requires a higher-education qualification or acceptance into the third undergraduate year. It defines higher education as post-secondary studies requiring at least four years for the degree. Prepare police evidence, photo, funds, insurance and the programme undertaking. SERMIG states origin-country police evidence issued no more than 60 days earlier, unless expressly exempted by the agreement; confirm application to your file.

Check education before applying

Meeting the age range does not establish the education requirement. Confirm the evidence for your situation before paying for certificates.

Allow a margin for passport validity

Compare expiry with both application and planned permit dates. Do not wait until the file is ready to discover you need a renewal.

Frequently asked questions

Do I apply at the consulate or through SERMIG?

Current instructions direct foreign applicants to SERMIG’s portal. This temporary residence application must be made from outside Chile.

References: MXH-CL-18 MXCL3-18

Is completing secondary school enough?

Chile’s annex requires a higher-education qualification or acceptance into the third undergraduate university year. This is not simply a completed-secondary-school rule.

References: MXH-CL-18 MXCL3-18

How long must my passport remain valid?

SERMIG specifies a year from application and the annex requires validity throughout the permit. Prepare a document meeting both instructions and confirm if expiry is approaching.

References: MXH-CL-18 MXCL3-18

Can children or other dependants accompany me?

Chile’s annex excludes travelling with children or other dependants under this programme. The general rule for other temporary residence categories does not remove this exception.

References: MXH-CL-18 MXCL3-18

Is a fixed funds amount confirmed?

The inspected sources require reasonable initial means and return travel or money to buy it. This review establishes no fixed amount; the authority assesses the evidence.

References: MXH-CL-18 MXCL3-18

Does the permit renew automatically?

Do not assume so. The annex sets a twelve-month maximum and conditions depend on the agreement and issued authorisation.
