Requirements, application steps and preparation before departure.

Length of stay

Initial funds

The Portuguese-applicant section asks for solvency and return resources, but its maintenance paragraph names Portugal despite the Chile route. This discrepancy is retained without inferring an amount; confirm the evidence with SERMIG.

Documents and participation

Use Tratados Internacionales → Working Holiday. Prepare police evidence no more than 60 days old and certified translations for originals outside Spanish/English; check apostille/legalisation and treaty exemptions.

Step 2

Apply through the official route

Apply outside Chile in the SERMIG portal, selecting Tratados Internacionales → Working Holiday. MINREL’s Portuguese section establishes the route; its funds paragraph contains an inconsistent reference to Portugal, so confirm the specific evidence.

  1. Read the Portuguese section: age 18–30, Portuguese passport, no dependants under the programme, health and no criminal record.
  2. Gather passport with the general minimum one-year validity, photo and requested certificates; confirm translation, apostille/legalisation and treaty exemptions.
  3. Outside Chile, apply in the SERMIG portal under Tratados Internacionales → Working Holiday and respond to requests.
  4. After approval, check the electronic permit, download, entry deadline and identity-card appointment.

Step 3

Read your approval and entry conditions

Read the entire approval notice: identity, dates, entry deadline and conditions. Keep it available offline. Do not assume the visa starts on your preferred date.

Step 4

Get ready for the trip

Keep departure resources separate from maintenance and full-stay medical, hospital and repatriation cover. Do not turn the incorrect Portugal reference in the funds paragraph into a confirmed Chilean amount or rule. Documents in other languages need authorised translation unless an applicable exemption exists.

  • Passport, visa and requested evidence accessible offline.
  • Initial funds, insurance and departure costs checked separately.
  • First accommodation and airport transport arranged.

Step 5

Start your Working Holiday

For a grant abroad, download the electronic permit within 120 working days and enter within the following 90 calendar days. Book the Chilean identity-card appointment within 30 days after entry. Old PDI registration does not apply to grants after 12 February 2022.
