Initial funds

The embassy requires initial funds and return arrangements; credit cards and overdrafts are not accepted as sufficient evidence. Confirm the required amount with the issuing authority.

Visa fee

The visa is fee-free; document and travel costs remain separate.

References: AT-JP

Annual quota

The embassy states an annual cap of 200 participants; this does not establish whether applications can still be accepted.

Application dates and timing

Apply no earlier than three months before intended arrival. At least one personal appearance is required; email submission is not accepted.

Step 3

After approval

Read the entire approval notice: identity, dates, entry deadline and conditions. Keep it available offline. Do not assume the visa starts on your preferred date.

Step 4

Prepare your trip

Keep funds evidence, insurance and a decision copy. Work limits and stay length are different.

  • Passport, visa and requested evidence accessible offline.
  • Initial funds, insurance and departure costs checked separately.
  • First accommodation and airport transport arranged.

Step 5

Start your Working Holiday

Register your address with the municipality within 14 days. Before leaving and returning, check special re-entry permission so you do not unintentionally lose your residence status.

Work

Work must remain secondary to the holiday; prohibited entertainment-sector jobs are excluded.

Language courses · commercial service

Prepare your language skills for the trip.

Through ViveCampus you can request language-course quotes with international-student discounts. Offers may vary by your country of origin and destination. A personalized quote confirms available discounts and the final price. Booking a course does not guarantee a visa.

A maximum language-course duration is not established by this guidance. Confirm your intended course with the embassy before committing.
