Functional English with accepted evidence
You may demonstrate this through qualifying English-medium education or an accepted test, depending on your case. Test evidence must be from the 12 months before applying. Self-assessment or course enrolment does not replace accepted evidence.

Explore English courses →Tertiary qualification or 2 university years; check history
Spain requires an accepted tertiary qualification or two completed years of undergraduate university study. Secondary education alone is insufficient. Spain is not on the consulted government support-letter list. Check health, character and prior entries on 417/462 visas.

The embassy advises avoiding travel commitments before visa grant. Prepare a separate arrival and accommodation budget.

Language courses · commercial service
Through ViveCampus, you can get quotes for language courses with international-student discounts. Offers may vary by your country of origin and destination. Request a personalized quote to confirm available discounts and the final price. Booking a course does not guarantee a visa.
Step 2
3,400 grants annually
Home Affairs lists this annual cap for Spain; it does not show remaining places or guarantee a grant.

2 July (AEST), annual rule; confirm the season
The cap page gives an annual 2 July opening (AEST), after 1 July maintenance. The first-462 page describes a 1 July–30 June year and refers to the next 1 July. We preserve the difference: as a precaution, be ready and check the portal from 1 July, submitting only when applications are accepted. No 2027 opening, exact hour or Spanish-time conversion is confirmed; checking early does not guarantee a place.

Step 3
Wait for a written decision. Before booking, check your entry deadline and the conditions of the permit you receive.
12 months
Enter within 12 months of grant; the stay of up to 12 months starts on arrival. Check your grant dates. A second visa has separate requirements and is not automatic.

Step 4
Prepare at least AUD 5,000, plus departure travel
This is cautious preparation guidance: Home Affairs describes usually about AUD 5,000 for the initial stay, plus departure costs. It is not the total budget or an exact figure guaranteeing that you meet the requirement. Budget separately for insurance, flights and accommodation.

Private insurance strongly recommended; check your grant
Home Affairs strongly recommends private insurance if you lack Medicare, even when it is not a visa condition. You remain responsible for uncovered costs. If your grant imposes condition 8501, maintain adequate cover during your stay. Check exclusions, waiting periods and out-of-pocket costs before buying.

Mark what you have reviewed. This helps you organise your trip; it is not a requirements assessment.
These marks are not saved or sent. Reloading clears them.
Step 5
Work during the stay; normally 6 months per employer
You can work during your authorized stay. The usual six-month limit concerns the same employer, not the total time you may work. Check exceptions and visa conditions before continuing with a company.

Up to 4 months
You can improve your English through a course within the four-month limit. Check dates, schedule and visa conditions before booking. Stronger language skills may support work preparation but do not guarantee a job.
