Luxembourg Working Holiday for Chileans (2026)

Requirements, application steps and preparation for your trip.

Step 1

Check requirements and plan my French or German preparation

Age when applying

Luxembourg and the Belgian embassy give ages 18–35 inclusive at application, while Chile’s text says not yet 35. Prepare to submit before turning 35 where possible. If already 35, confirm in writing with the embassy before spending; this is neither automatic approval nor rejection.

Passport and residence

You must be Chilean with permanent residence in Chile. Prepare a passport valid for at least fifteen months from visa issue. The Belgian embassy in Santiago represents Luxembourg administratively; Luxembourg makes the decision.

Language and form

Submit the dated signed motivation letter and CV in French, English or German; no language test is listed for Chileans. These are accepted document languages, not a statement of official languages. Course and job language expectations depend on the provider or employer.

Other requirements

Prepare the embassy’s D form, two photos under ministry guidance, passport, letter and CV. The special-purpose criminal certificate needs an apostille, official translation and an age of no more than three months. Add the medical certificate, funds, insurance, return evidence and accommodation for the first fifteen days. No dependants or previous participation in Luxembourg’s scheme.

Language courses · commercial service

Prepare your language skills before travelling.

Through ViveCampus, you can get quotes for language courses with international-student discounts. Offers may vary by your country of origin and destination. Request a personalized quote to confirm available discounts and the final price. Booking a course does not guarantee a visa.

Step 2

Apply for the Working Holiday visa

Annual quota

The scheme provides a maximum of 100 visas annually for Chileans. That figure does not show remaining places or confirm that you can file today. Check the official calendar and channel.

Application dates

The Santiago embassy announces the next period for the first quarter of 2027 without an exact day or time. Prepare documents and check its notice before sending. General Luxembourg guidance mentions October for following-year planning; this does not override Santiago’s specific calendar.

References: 1 2

Visa cost

The application costs EUR 180 and any legalisations EUR 20 each, paid in Chilean pesos. Wait for official payment instructions after initial review. Payment is not approval and is not refunded after refusal.

Decision timing

Santiago gives an average of thirty working days for initial review, then another thirty working days for Luxembourg’s response. The ministry says thirty days without specifying working days: plan with the longer allowance. Payment and biometrics sit between stages; the appointment must take place within ten days after payment under the invitation. This is not a total thirty-day promise or a guaranteed combined deadline.

How to prepare your application

  1. Check Santiago’s first-quarter 2027 notice. Prepare before turning 35 where possible; if already 35, confirm the age boundary before spending. No exact opening date is established.
  2. Gather the D form specified by the Belgian embassy, apostilled translated criminal certificate, recognised doctor’s certificate, letter and CV. Add funds, insurance, return evidence and initial accommodation; check document ages.
  3. Follow the official page’s email and file-format instructions to submit a complete file to the Belgian embassy. Do not send personal documents to VisaWorkingHoliday. The Belgian form is part of its representation of Luxembourg.
  4. Await initial review and payment/biometric instructions. Meet the embassy’s ten-day post-payment biometric deadline. Luxembourg then decides; paying does not establish approval.

An appointment is not a visa approval. Check the embassy’s instructions before making firm financial commitments.

Step 3

If my authorisation is issued

Wait for the written decision before committing to flights or study. If issued an authorisation, check its entry dates and all conditions.

Length of stay

The visa provides twelve months, without extension or a change of type after that period. Santiago says to start travel within six months of approval. That travel window does not add six months to the stay: confirm printed dates before booking.

A personal planning aid; ticking the list does not confirm visa eligibility. Your ticks are not saved or sent. Reloading this page starts the list again.

Funds for your stay

Prepare at least EUR 2,500 for support and a return reservation or an additional EUR 500. Santiago accepts current bank evidence and credit-card limits; it also describes an apostilled translated notarial declaration. Investment statements and term or savings deposits are not accepted. Check evidence format; this is not the total trip budget.

Insurance throughout your stay

Prepare Schengen travel insurance throughout the stay with at least EUR 30,000 cover. Choose a policy meeting the conditions. You also need a certificate from a doctor recognised by the Belgian embassy, no more than six months old under Santiago guidance; insurance does not replace the certificate.

Flights and return travel

The return reservation or EUR 500 to buy it is additional to EUR 2,500 support. Check change terms and wait for the decision before firm spending. Start travel within the six-month period communicated by the embassy.

Step 5

Start my Working Holiday in Luxembourg

Working during the stay

The visa permits temporary employment with one or more employers in Luxembourg and exempts a separate Immigration residence-permit application. Register arrival with your local municipality and declare departure when leaving. It does not authorise work elsewhere in the EU or provide welfare or unemployment benefits.

References: 1 2 3

Language courses and other study

Guidance allows courses alongside the holiday; Luxembourg’s FAQ excludes university-level study and requires courses to fit within visa validity. Santiago says a limited period without a number. Confirm the specific course before paying; no month limit is invented here.

Arrival formalities and conditions

  1. Register with the commune

Working Holiday holders must register with their local municipality for an arrival declaration and temporary registration covering the visa period.

    References: 7

  2. Distinguish visa and residence permit

Participants are exempt from applying to the General Department of Immigration for a residence permit. Do not add that process to municipal registration.

    References: 7

  3. Check the contract and work country

The visa permits fixed-term employment in Luxembourg. It does not authorise living or working in another European Union country.

    References: 7

  4. Declare your departure

Before leaving Luxembourg, declare your departure to your commune of residence. Arrange travel within your visa validity.

Your first days in Luxembourg

A starting point for planning, not a promise of a job or accommodation. Check your visa conditions before working or studying.

  1. Give yourself time to settle in

Plan the route to your accommodation and keep the address available offline. Allow time to rest, get to know the area and adjust your budget to your actual expenses.

Return to my preparation checklist →
  2. Prepare for your job search

Update your CV in French or German and practise a short introduction about your experience. Read what each role asks for and prepare for interview questions. French or German expectations vary between jobs.

Explore French or German preparation →
  3. Keep support contacts handy

Keep the consular contact for the area where you will stay, along with your accommodation details. If you will study, ask the school what arrival guidance it provides.

If your plans change, review the costs, dates and relevant conditions before making new bookings.

Also compare Australia

Review each destination separately. Age, insurance and study conditions differ; an age filter does not decide whether you can obtain a visa.
