Hungary Working Holiday for Chileans (2026)

Requirements, application steps and preparation for your trip.

Step 1

Check requirements and plan my Hungarian preparation

Age when applying

Submit from age 18 and before turning 36. Booking and filing are separate steps; age alone does not establish that you meet the other conditions.

References: 1 4 7

Passport and residence

The agreement covers Chileans habitually resident in Chile. Prepare a passport valid at least three months beyond the planned stay; residence guidance also requires at least one year counted from the thirtieth day after filing. Check both margins against expiry before your appointment.

Language and form

The consulted checklist requires a detailed English CV and simple declarations typed in English, printed and signed in blue ink. It lists no Hungarian or English test. Courses and employers may set their own language expectations.

Other requirements

Prepare the completed form without signing before the appointment, apostilled criminal certificate, English CV and declarations, bank statements, insurance and accommodation reserved for more than ninety days. The agreement and Chile ask for two photos: bring two recent 35 × 45 mm photos although Santiago lists one. No accompanying dependants. Read the official list of declarations and previous-passport copies.

Language courses · commercial service

Prepare your language skills before travelling.

Through ViveCampus, you can get quotes for language courses with international-student discounts. Offers may vary by your country of origin and destination. Request a personalized quote to confirm available discounts and the final price. Booking a course does not guarantee a visa.

Step 2

Apply for the Working Holiday visa

Annual quota

The authority provides for up to 200 permits annually for Chileans. This is an agreement cap, not remaining availability. Check official filing instructions.

References: 3 7

Application dates

For filing from Chile, the embassy asks for submission no earlier than three months and no later than one and a half months before planned travel. Prepare by the start of that window. No 2027 annual opening or time has been established here; an appointment does not guarantee a permit.

Visa cost

The general residence-permit and entry-visa fee is EUR 110. Santiago’s Working Holiday page lists CLP 121,330, paid by credit or debit card, without cash or American Express. No conversion between those figures is assumed: confirm the current local charge before the appointment and budget separately for insurance, translations and travel.

References: 1 8

Decision timing

The authority lists twenty-one procedural days, excluding time to remedy missing evidence and other procedural steps. This is not total time from seeking an appointment. Also respect Santiago’s one-and-a-half-to-three-month pre-travel filing window.

How to prepare your application

  1. Plan to file between three and one and a half months before travel. Prepare documents and confirm the local fee before booking.
  2. Use the embassy-linked appointment system for residence beyond ninety days. Complete the form but wait to sign before the consul at your appointment.
  3. Bring two recent photos, an apostilled criminal certificate, English CV and declarations, six months of certified statements, accommodation for more than ninety days, insurance and return evidence. Check the full list and previous-passport instructions.
  4. File in person and pay by the embassy’s accepted method. Await the decision, check any entry visa and follow residence-permit collection instructions; these are different documents.

An appointment is not a visa approval. Check the embassy’s instructions before making firm financial commitments.

Step 3

If my authorisation is issued

Wait for the written decision before committing to flights or study. If issued an authorisation, check its entry dates and all conditions.

Length of stay

The agreement provides a twelve-month residence permit. The D visa to collect it serves a different purpose: one entry, three-month validity and an initial stay of up to thirty days. Follow the decision and permit-delivery instructions. Although the agreement makes renewal conditional on domestic law, current guidance says this permit cannot be extended or changed to another purpose within Hungary.

A personal planning aid; ticking the list does not confirm visa eligibility. Your ticks are not saved or sent. Reloading this page starts the list again.

Funds for your stay

No applicable numeric minimum has been established here. Demonstrate sufficient support and explain its source. Santiago asks for detailed bank statements for the last six months with an original bank stamp, plus an income or support declaration. Prepare that evidence and ask what amount will be assessed; do not import another country’s minimum.

Insurance throughout your stay

Prepare medical and hospital insurance covering the full stay. No Chile-specific monetary cover minimum has been established here. Check exclusions and embassy conditions before purchasing; insurance and support funds are separate evidence.

References: 1 4 7

Flights and return travel

A return ticket or funds to buy one are additional to support evidence. Confirm accepted documentation and change options before committing to flights. A consular booking is not approval.

Step 5

Start my Working Holiday in Hungary

Working during the stay

The agreement allows holders to undertake lawful work, including temporary employment, without a separate work permit in Hungary. The holiday remains the main purpose. No six-month employer limit has been established here: the agreement’s six months concerns study.

References: 4 7

Hungarian or other study

Article 6 allows study or training courses for a total maximum of six months during the visit. Keep that combined limit in mind when comparing Hungarian and other courses; confirm dates and admission before paying. A course does not guarantee a visa or a job.

Arrival formalities and conditions

  1. Distinguish entry visa from permit

For a consular application, approval enables the visa for receiving the permit. That D visa is single-entry, valid for three months and permits up to 30 days of stay.

    References: 9

  2. Arrange postal delivery

The permit is posted to the delivery address in your application. Ensure you can receive it there; entering on a D visa does not mean you have the card.

    References: 9

  3. Ask if delivery is impossible

Collection at the regional directorate is allowed only if you prove you cannot receive the document at the stated address.

    References: 9

  4. Plan within the permit

This temporary permit cannot be extended. The guide also prohibits applying in Hungary under another residence purpose during its validity or after expiry.

Your first days in Hungary

A starting point for planning, not a promise of a job or accommodation. Check your visa conditions before working or studying.

  1. Give yourself time to settle in

Plan the route to your accommodation and keep the address available offline. Allow time to rest, get to know the area and adjust your budget to your actual expenses.

Return to my preparation checklist →
  2. Prepare for your job search

Update your CV in Hungarian and practise a short introduction about your experience. Read what each role asks for and prepare for interview questions. Hungarian expectations vary between jobs.

  3. Keep support contacts handy

Keep the consular contact for the area where you will stay, along with your accommodation details. If you will study, ask the school what arrival guidance it provides.

If your plans change, review the costs, dates and relevant conditions before making new bookings.

Also compare Australia

Review each destination separately. Age, insurance and study conditions differ; an age filter does not decide whether you can obtain a visa.
