Colombia Working Holiday for Chileans (2026)

Requirements, application steps and preparation for your trip.

Step 1

Check requirements and plan my trip

Age when applying

You must be 18–30 when applying. Meeting the range does not replace document review or confirm that a visa will be issued.

References: 1

Passport and residence

This guide concerns Chilean citizens using a passport in good condition, valid for at least 6 months when applying and with blank pages. The specific rule requires Colombia’s representation responsible for Chile, even though general instructions allow other offices for other visas.

References: 1 2 5

Language requirement

The specific checklist reviewed does not mention a language test. An additional test requirement for Chileans has not been confirmed. If you want to study another language during the trip, consider its relevance and check study conditions before paying.

Other requirements

Prepare a purpose letter declaring no previous participation, the commitment form and criminal records from countries where you stayed during the last 3 years, with applicable formalities. The visa does not allow dependent beneficiaries. The authority may request further information or an interview.

Language courses · commercial service

Prepare your language skills before travelling.

Through ViveCampus, you can get quotes for language courses with international-student discounts. Offers may vary by your country of origin and destination. Request a personalized quote to confirm available discounts and the final price. Booking a course does not guarantee a visa.

Step 2

Apply for the Working Holiday visa

Annual quota

The original Pacific Alliance framework allows up to 300 visas yearly per nationality. This is not a remaining-place count or confirmation of a current call; check with Colombia before arranging your application.

Application dates

No dated 2026 or 2027 opening has been confirmed. Applications are registered online and this category must go through the Colombian representation in, or responsible for, your country of nationality. Confirm the relevant office in Chile.

References: 1 2

Visa cost

The official Vacaciones y Trabajo fee entry dated 9 June 2026 lists USD 0 for assessment and USD 0 for the visa. Confirm current treatment of your application. This excludes insurance, criminal certificates, travel and other applicable formalities.

References: 3

Decision timing

General instructions allow up to 30 calendar days after a complete application and applicable payment. Further consultations and verification can extend the period. Confirm how timing is counted for a fee-exempt category; it is not a promised travel date.

How to prepare your application

  1. Read the V Vacaciones y Trabajo category and its conditions for Chileans. Prepare passport, purpose letter, commitment, criminal records, insurance, bank certificate and departure-ticket evidence.
  2. Register the application through the official visa platform. For this category, confirm the Colombian office in or responsible for Chile; do not simply use other visas’ general residence-based rule.
  3. Upload the requested documents and check that they are complete and readable. Confirm the category’s applicable fee and respond to any further-information or interview request. This website does not receive or process documents.
  4. Await the decision and check the issued visa, its dates and any registration obligations on arrival. Filing the application does not authorise work or guarantee approval.

Sending the file is not approval. Confirm the authority’s instructions before making firm financial commitments.

Step 3

If my authorisation is issued

Wait for the written decision before committing to flights or study. If issued an authorisation, check its entry dates and all conditions.

Length of stay

The visa may be issued for up to one year and allows a stay during its validity. It is issued only once, does not allow applications for M or R visas inside Colombia, and requires return to your country of nationality or residence when it ends. Check the dates on the issued visa.

A personal planning aid; ticking the list does not confirm visa eligibility. Your ticks are not saved or sent. Reloading this page starts the list again.

Funds for your stay

The rule requires your bank certificate showing an average over the last 3 months above 5 current legal monthly minimum wages, or the agreement’s limit. Confirm the current wage and how the rule applies to your file. This is not the same as declaring monthly income or a complete travel budget; no Chilean-peso conversion has been made.

Insurance throughout your stay

The policy must cover Colombia for the intended stay, including accident, illness, maternity, disability, hospitalisation, death or repatriation. Review policy terms and exclusions before purchase; a minimum insured amount has not been confirmed.

References: 1

Flights and return travel

Colombia’s visa entry requests a copy or electronic details of the departure ticket. Although general agreement guidance mentions funds as an alternative, prepare Colombia’s requested evidence and confirm what is accepted before making a non-refundable commitment.

Step 5

Start my Working Holiday in Colombia

Working during the stay

The V Vacaciones y Trabajo visa grants open work permission under its conditions. The trip retains the agreement’s purpose; check employment obligations and any regulated-profession authorisation before accepting a role. It does not guarantee a job.

References: 1

Study or training

The original official agreement announcement describes study or training for up to 2 months. The current visa entry does not expand on that limit: use it as cautious planning context and confirm applicability with Colombia before booking a course. This is separate from a student visa.

Arrival formalities and conditions

  1. Keep your visa and entry date

Keep your passport and electronic or stamped visa available. Retain your entry date to check the registration deadline with Migración Colombia.

    References: 8

  2. Check the applicable deadline

The guide requires registration of visas longer than three months and states 15 calendar days after entry when issued abroad. It also mentions electronic notification; clarify your case before travel.

    References: 8

  3. Prepare the form and appointment

For the process, check e-FUT, passport and visa evidence, and an appointment at a service centre. Do not use the child-registration procedure for adults.

  4. Confirm whether an identity card applies

The guide lists identity-card exceptions for certain V visas. Obtain Working Holiday-specific confirmation; visa registration and an identity card are not interchangeable concepts.

Your first days in Colombia

A starting point for planning, not a promise of a job or accommodation. Check your visa conditions before working or studying.

  1. Give yourself time to settle in

Plan the route to your accommodation and keep the address available offline. Allow time to rest, get to know the area and adjust your budget to your actual expenses.

Return to my preparation checklist →
  2. Prepare for your job search

Update your CV in Spanish and prepare a short introduction about your experience. Confirm work formalities before starting and check each role’s requirements, including other languages where relevant.

    Review work conditions →
  3. Keep support contacts handy

Keep the consular contact for the area where you will stay, along with your accommodation details. If you will study, ask the school what arrival guidance it provides.

    View consular contacts →

If your plans change, review the costs, dates and relevant conditions before making new bookings.

Also compare Australia

Review each destination separately. Age, insurance and study conditions differ; an age filter does not decide whether you can obtain a visa.
